With the very early Spring it seems like the Summer season of group shows is out in full force already. Yet, it is still Spring and this is what is in bloom:
Midori Hirose is one of those artists that the Portland art scene loves critically (we were
the first to review her when she was relatively unknown and
again and
yet again). I has been a while since we have seen her go all out so this exhibition at PSU's often excellent Littman Gallery is quite welcome. We shall see what this humorous alchemist is up to this time?

Julia Oldham at Portland Pataphysical Society
Last month we picked this but it is still up so Im giving the nod again to Julia Oldham's Farewell Brave Voyager features; installation of video, animation, music and drawing that memorialize 2 doomed astronaut dogs... one fictional, the other historical. Honestly I'm saddened by the fates of these two dogs but interested in the conflicting emotions this space odyssey might present... so nice to see the Everett Station Lofts doing challenging work again! Last month some people were crying.
Farewell Brave Voyager | April 2 - May 23rd

PICA just turned 10 and the Elizabeth Leach Gallery is holding a survey of the first 10 years. This is apropos because PICA began with a vote in Liz's gallery. We too are
all tied up in those years as PORT actually started 10 years ago when PICA was in a bit of a tactical retreat after having a strong program during the Kristy Edmunds/Stuart Horodner years. Lately,
they have re-emerged as institutionally the
most experimental force in Portland. Let's hear it to making the next 10 even more exciting.
