Chris Jordon, " Light Bulbs," from the series "Running the Numbers"
The next APEX installation opens this weekend at PAM. Seattle-based artist Chris Jordon's
Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait is a series of large format digital collages comprised of repeatedly patterned photographic images. Jordon chooses to visualize statistics that are easily overlooked: the number of kilowatt hours of electricity wasted in the United States every minute, represented by light bulbs, or the number of emergency room visits caused yearly by the misuse of pain killers, represented by Vicodin pills. By building images out of these numbers, Jordon encourages viewers to consider their role in how they add up.
