Hiroshi Watanabe
This month, Newspace presents
Ideology in Paradise, a series of photographs by
Hiroshi Watanabe. In this beautiful exhibition, Watanabe gives the viewer a glimpse into the normally off-limits world of North Korea. Although accompanied by government-appointed handlers, Watanabe was able to capture many charmingly human moments in the people he portrays.
There will be a free artist lecture and slideshow at 1pm on Saturday, January 5.

Hours and Ours (exhibition and publication) debuts this month at Small A Projects. Jessica Jackson Hutchin's project stems from a process begun while cleaning out her studio post-MFA. As she observed the objects around her, Hutchin's developed a series of drawings and scrap collages that explore the presence of meaning and memory in our surroundings. "Investing personal energy into reading everyday things" is a process described as "seminal to her work." Accompanying the drawings is a sculpture and video project that also delves into the boundary between formal work and "offhand document."
